Hi
The PSU has failed on the WS and it is no longer supplied by HP and it does not appear to be a standard ATX PSU - all the wire on the main m/b connector are black.
The original PSU has the following-
DPS 600 UB
Spare p/n 632911-001
Can I use a standard PSU as a replacement?
Thanks

the HP supply for that workstation is not a ATX compatible supply you need the correct hp supply see link below
also be aware that early HP units have two gpu 6 pin connectors and later units only have one six pin gpu connector so you may have to get a gpu power splitter if you need dual power connectors on your video card

and if you have the z420 motherboard with the 18 pin power connector, you can also use a adapter that does allow use of a ATX style supply however if you go this route you must use a "quality" brand name 650/700 watt supply and it should be of a single rail design not a multi rail design

Added perspective:
These HP workstations rarely have power supplies that give up the ghost, but it does happen. I have never had a problem with buying a used HP replacement from eBay, and never have had one of those go out later down the line. Over 10 years of doing this now.....
