I connect SATA port 0 with SSD containing Linux Debian stretch from a different machine, SATA port 1 with Toshiba X300 4Tb. I also connect a SAS drive to SAS port 0. In Bios or in Debian, I could not see this SAS drive. But if I remove the other two SATA drives, the machine recognizes the SAS drive and immediately boot into windows (the SAS drive has Windows 7 OS).
My question is, can SAS and SATA coexist? Is there a rule on how to populate the SATA and SAS port? Does it matter if I set BIOS to IDE or RAID? I learned about the 2 Tb limitation. I wonder if the 4Tb SATA drive is the cause of it. When I created the partition table for the Toshiba, it wont let me to create a 4Tb partiition. Then I decided to create on partition with type DOS. Then I delete that partition and create a new one with type Linux system. This time I was able to create 4Tb partition. Is the 2Tb limitation applied to both SATA and SAS? Or is it only applicable if I turn on RAID option?

the z800's LSI 1068e SAS/SATA controller and Bios has some limitations
the z800 bios should ALLWAYS be set to AHCI+Raid
boot drive is limited to under 2TB on the SATA ports and possibly 3TB on the LSI ports if using a add in SAS/SATA card
you can only have up to 4 "simple volume" partitions on a bootable drive as i recall
the onboard LSI SAS/SATA ports can support mixed SAS/SATA drives at the same time, in JBOD mode just not as a raid array
a better choice overall would be to use a 3rd party SAS/SATA controller like the adaptec 5 or 6 series,
i personally use a ASR-6805T in my z800 as the boot and for the four internal 4 drive bays as it's a true 6GBps card that supports JBOD and true Raid modes due to it having onboard cache and battery backup
the LSI 9240 card is also a workable alternative, but it's raid 5/6 modes is very weak/poor as this cad has no onboard cache/battery backup

Last night I decided to remove all the drives and just installed the SAS drive. The SAS drive was working fine last week but last night, the system wont detect it at all.
For the "ASR-6805T", I assume you route the cables from this card to the drive bays if you are going to use the 4 drive bays.
I found that when I connect my SATA drives, one of the SATA drives has 4Tb, the Bios recognizes it as a 2 Tb drive. But when I bootup Linux, the OS recognizes it as a 4Tb drive. I am assuming that I should not be concerned about this. If in the future I need to move this drive to a different machine (more newer machine with newer hardware (2015 hardware)), I only need to connect the drive to the new machine, without worrying if it is not going to work.
