Z6G5 (Intel W9-3475X) / Nvidia RTX4000...

Amongst the updates that Microsoft regularly provides, this one is an optional update:

Microsofts description simply says "HP Firmware 1.2.8.0".

Using HP's support tools that lists all firmware updates received and what they do/in which part of the

computer they are applied, searching the Internet for the one above returns nothing.

The BIOS is updated. HP's own support assistant does not list any missing updates at all.

Anyone here that can shed some light about the "1.2.8.0" ?

I'd bet a BIOS update.

You may know there is a Z6 G5 and a Z6 G5 A... very different workstations. Both got BIOS updates last half of October, and to have so quickly an update means some issues must have been found.

Note the BIOS for the two above Z6 workstations are different... expected given the big differences between them.

You can go into BIOS and probe from there for BIOS updates too... these newer workstations can talk to HP servers from withing BIOS.

I am aware of the two different versions of the Z6 G5. One with an Intel and the other with an AMD CPU. I also have experiences with the Z4 that came with two different CPU options: Xeon and Core 7 something (or if it was a core 9). Microsoft did not knew this and tried to push a Core update into my Xeon machine. Lucklily, the machine refused to flash that version.

I will hide this optional update as I use HP support services instead for firmware and driver updates. Someone with connections with Microsoft could perhaps either inform them that their offering should come with more detailed explanations as to what they are offering and easier ways to decline them than having to download the update hiding tool.
