Z640

I have a Z640 workstation with a dual-processor setup and DDR4 RAM. The second processor is mounted on a removable motherboard. When I power it on, the machine runs for about a minute, after which all the fans spin at full speed, but nothing is displayed on the screen. It stays in this state.

I’ve performed several tests: disconnecting the second processor card, testing with just one processor, swapping the graphics card, replacing the RAM, disconnecting all peripherals (USB 3.0, DVD drive, hard drive, etc.), but the issue persists. The machine still powers on the same way, with the fans running at full speed after about a minute, and no display on the screen.

KarimAv,

Welcome. This topic and those symptoms have come up here over the years many times. A recent discussion can be found HERE.   The issue has rarely been fixed using the Crisis Recovery method mentioned and linked to in that post. I have been involved with that since the beginning. And, as I state in the recent post, I have shifted to considering the solution to be replacing the motherboard. There have been rare successes using the Crisis Recovery method, but the motherboard replacement works quite reliably. Here in the US we probably have a greater selection of used Z640 motherboards because more of these are being parted out here. It turns out that the separated parts are worth more to many sellers than just selling a whole used workstation.

In my last post in that recent thread I attached some HP information on how to do the Crisis Recovery process for the ZX40 workstations. That is a nice workstation, and I hope you can recover it one way or another.
