Hello .
I do have a Z400 with a 1 Tb Samsung EVO 860 SSD. read/write around 500 Mb/s . Installed Samsung Magician (which will allocate up to 4Gb of RAM as cashing the SSD) so that now CrystalDiskMark is showing 2400 read / 2055 write , although this is not the real disk speed...
Booting Windows is 36 seconds (as BootTime app shows) or 30sec with Fastboot option enabled on Windows 10
Overall the feel of the Z400 is fast speed whithin Windows 10 due to Samsung SSD.
Now I am wondering if there is worthed to install a SM951 M.2 256 SSD ??
Will be a noticeable difference? (price for an used 256Gb AHCI SM951 M.2 SSD is around 58 USD (less than 10000 hours / 100% heath)

I think it won't make a difference since the disk cacheing provided by the software did the trick. I'm running Mac OS X on my Z400 and there's no Samsung Magician for Mac OS, this instance the SM951 is mandatory or I'll never reach such read/write speed. You may notice some slow down when you switch between different apps and the software has to rebuild your cache files but I don't think it would be a deal breaker.

Yeah I see what you mean.
But saying that having the Samsung Magician to do some RAM cash (which some say Windows 10 would take care of anyway just that Samsung Magician is doing it a bit more agressivelly) is not the same as having a 1500/1000Mbs read/write SSD ....
For example, on the first load of anything there is no cashing advantage whatsoever ... Only on repeatead loading of the same chunks of data will take advantage of cashing...
And I was thinking that having the M.2 SSD the Windows boot time should be faster , isnt it?

Completely agree with you about you'll need two or three data loading before seeing some advantage. In my case to be honest I didn't see any speed improvement in booting (Mac OS) when I switched from a regular Vertex4 SSD to M2.

Yeah ... I think I'll just stick with my new beloved 1Tb SATA III Samsung SSD .... it seems this should be good enough for "Highest End Z400 Build" ...
I'll save the money for a M.2 SSD when I'll go for a latest Intel Processor ...

I've found a Kingstone 480Gb PCIe M.2 without HHHL adaptor with 189 Pounds.
Do you think a Lycom adapter should work with it?
Do you think it;s a good price to buy?
