OMEN 30L Desktop - GT13-0014

I want to buy a RTX 3050 so I can play VR with a higher quality and wanted to know if a RTX 3050 is compatible with my motherboard. It is currently using a GTX 1650 super.

hi

most often, it is not a problem of incompatibility in itself!
But rather requirements!
check if it is this model

Total wattage: 500 W

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER FH (6 GB)

Total power consumption: 125 W

External power connector: One PCIe 2x4 (8pin)

and therefore if the power recommended for your graphics card corresponds to what you have, and if you need or not additional pci connectors, available or not
you can check out this KB from @old_geekster

@Dylan39,

Just as a minor addition to @Prométhée's expert response and with his indulgence, I would like to answer your question:  Yes, an RTX 3050 is compatible with your desktop/motherboard.

According to Gigabyte RTX 3050 Gaming OC review - Hardware setup | Power consumption (guru3d.com), the minimum RTX 3050 power supply requirement is 500 watt.

Your desktop is fitted with a 500 watt PSU which is equipped with one 8-pin PCIe power connection required for all RTX 3050 graphics cards.

The only two things to look out for, are:

A.) Does the RTX 3050 you are looking at physically fit inside your desktop [carefully look at the graphics card's dimensions (LxWxH) such as this RTX 3050 example ‎(7.94 x 1.64 x 4.33 inches) -which would likely fit inside your desktop, but you'll still have to verify: Amazon.com: EVGA GeForce RTX 3050 XC Gaming, 08G-P5-3553-KR, 8GB GDDR6, Dual-Fan, Metal Backplate : ...]

B.) Internal desktop air cooling.  Higher end graphics cards tend to produce more heat.  Is there enough cooling air moving through your desktop?  If temps tend to spike, you'll have to look into chassis/case cooling fan upgrades and/or fan addition(s).

[EDIT:] As far as beyond-RTX 3050 desktop/motherboard GPU compatibility is concerned, the ONLY limits you are facing are GPU size/dimensions, air cooling and power supply.

Mind you, the following Users with HP 87C3 (Moria3) Motherboards fitted the following GPUs with upgraded power supplies and likely chassis cooling upgrades.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Upgrade Video Card

A good video card can be a must when gaming.  It is an easy upgrade for someone without much technology background.  However, there are some things that you have to consider when choosing a card.

The first thing to consider is the BIOS/UEFI in the motherboard.  Most newer video cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard/Legacy BIOS.  You can find this information in the "System Information" app, in the BIOS Mode section, on your computer.  The BIOS can't be upgraded to UEFI.  There are three other important things to consider: 1) the length of the card; 2) the wattage required to run the card properly and 3) does the power supply unit (PSU) have any necessary 1x6-pin, 1x8-pin or both supplementary power connectors.  If not, this will require a PSU upgrade.

You can determine if the card will fit by measuring the space where it will be installed from the Back I/O ports to the front of the case.  There should be enough space to allow for good airflow.  The airflow is extremely important because these newer high-power cards develop a lot of heat.  HEAT is your enemy in a computer.  The wattage required is very important, also.  It is normally recommended that the PSU has 100W to 150W more than the card requires.  This allows for extra power for peak needs and for other future upgrades.

Once these requirements are met you can choose the manufacturer that you like and find a card that will meet your needs.  A good resource for assuring that you choose the best card for your system is the manufacturer's Tech Support.  They are the experts on their products.  I have always found them to be very helpful.

There are numerous videos online to help you with the actual installation.

Although @Dylan39  everything is already clearly specified, I would add just one thing that I forgot
The type of box here is known to have problems
There are many threads here indicating overheating issues.
Not only is it important to check if the graphics card can fit, but if it is not too big, so as not to prevent the circulation of air..
Do not spend too much money finally, for this box!
If you ever choose a more powerful graphics card, moreover to check, according to your real needs, it will heat up more!
If you are still under warranty, take into account that a major modification of the computer can be a failure, and a big problem if you need to operate the warranty

Some users have also solved the problem by replacing the box, if you are no longer under warranty, this seems to be quite effective
