Hi:

I checked the Nvidia site, and they did not release any W10 drivers for that card.

Paul is right but you may wish to upgrade your card so you can use better hardware/drivers in your xw8400. It will cost you about 19.00 off eBay.

For a convoluted reason I need to keep one of the same generation of HP workstation running... a xw6400. There are specific expensive medical monitors I can upgrade their firmware only with a specific PCI (not PCIe) video card that runs only on Windows XP. Once that has been done those monitors will finally work properly under W7/W8/W10 and even W11.

In that xw6400 I simultaneously also run a nVidia Quadro 2000 PCIe card, which has official nVidia XP/W7/W8/W10 drivers available. So I can switch the video cables after the firmware update and then recalibrate the monitors using the more modern video card. It then is also calibrated for use on a W10/W11 modern OS. The point is now you know that card will work fine with your xw8400 workstation under W10Pro64.

Remember video card technology had taken quantum leaps forward with better performance at lower energy costs over time... a good upgrade for $19.00 USD. If you choose to do that my advice is to get the original Quadro 2000 with the rectangular heatsink/fan enclosure. We have found the last-released rounded rear end ones have caused incompatibility issues we never see on the rectangular ones. You can easily see the difference on eBay.

a newer video card is the way to go, however you might be able to use the win 7 64bit driver, by manually installing the driver and bypass the nvidia driver setup program you can do this by downloading the driver and starting the setup which will extract the files to a folder useually c:\nvidia\xxxxxx\xxxxxxxx\

you will see a folder called drivers that's the one you need to select during the manual driver install

Update: this early driver setup package simply extracts all files into a single folder (no subfolders) is seems, so point the driver location request to the root of the extracted nvidia folder

Hi, @DKW92564

I assumed what you meant by 'the microsft generic driver that works OK,' was that Microsoft installed an 'inbox' driver for the FX1400 graphics adapter.

If you are seeing a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter in the device manager instead of the FX1400, you can download the W8 driver from the link below.

Quadro/Tesla Desktop Driver Release 304 | R304 U4 (307.45) | Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8 64-bit, Win...

To install the driver, first download and install the free 7-zip file utility.

The 1st file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

7-Zip

After you installed 7-zip, right click on the Nvidia graphics driver you downloaded and select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the file into its folder name.

After that is done, go to the device manager.

Click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.

Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter listed there.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.

Make sure that the Include subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.

Thanks, Paul. I will give this a try.
