I have a nice xw8600 workstation with Windows 10 Pro , 64-bit OS. Somewhere after a modest time (10 -25 minutes) the wireless MS Mouse stops functioning properly and the hourglass appears, depending on where the pointer lands on the screen(s). I cannot open apps on the task bar.
Until this happens, everything is normal. The only thing I can do is manually shut down and reboot. I've replaced the mouse battery and even changed from one MS Mouse and transceiver to another just like it, but the same things happens in the same manner. I've also tried other USB ports for the transceiver, including both the built-in ports and those on a USB 3 USB expansion card.
I've even tried to figure out how to re-flash the BIOS in case something was wrong there (the battery should be been changed sooner, I think) but the instructions for doing that are archaic and confusing. Any help would be appreciated....I don't want to have to buy another workstation of the same caliber as this one or better yet, one that's capable of running Windows 11.

1 - I suspect this older system has devices that cannot wake up after sleeping.
Please go to power setting and disable sleep. Do not let the monitor sleep nor the hard drive. in addition to the computer itself. Verify you have the following sleep modes using admin command prompt and "powercfg -a"
Alternately select hibernate instead of sleep
2 - Check event viewer both Applications and System for errors such as timeouts. Report back what you find.
Frequently the event logs is so big it is useful to clear all the logs and reboot to make it easier to spot problems.
3 - Possible an app is causing the problem. Does the problem occur when an app is on the screen or has been run and closed? Some apps when closed leave part of themselves in memory such as certain microsoft office products. For example I had the same mouse hourglass (busy) problem because of an office XML handler corruption
[edit] If the event viewer shows timeouts then what was the application causing the problem? Look also at the device manager for alerts indicating a driver problem. If you have Office do an office repair. Run a disk scan. It also might help to run "sfc /scannow" from the admin prompt to verify files have not been corrupted.
