HP ProDesk 400 G5 Small Form Factor PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello! I need your help and knowledge. I have an HP ProDesk 400 G5 SFF (Product number: 4QQ19LT#ABM) and I want to install a Zotac GeForce RTX 3050 6GB Low Profile graphics card (already purchased). My problem is that my current HP 180W Gold L07658-001 power supply isn't sufficient for the RTX 3050 (the total system draw would be around 190W). I need a higher wattage power supply.

I'm looking for an OEM HP 310W or 400W SFF power supply, or even a 250W SFF power supply, but one that's compatible with the proprietary motherboard connectors of the HP ProDesk 400 G5.

Has anyone successfully performed this upgrade on an HP ProDesk 400 G5 SFF or similar?
Do you know of specific part numbers that work?

I would greatly appreciate any advice or experience to get my low-profile RTX 3050 running smoothly.

Thanks in advance!

this infomation is mostly from a post "NonSequitur777" previously posted on the 800 G5

i think that the ProDesk 800 G5 power supplies will fit the 400 G5 also

you can use the 250-watt power supply (p/n: L08417-004/002) or, better still, a 400-watt power supply with p/n: 942332-001, (L04618-800) with one 6+2-pin PCIe power cable, and a 500-watt power supply, with p/n: L77487-003 (L89233-001), the latter being equipped with two 6+2-pin PCIe power cables.

You need to have at least an 400w Power supply and a New case cause you Will need a better air flow.

So what I do recommand is an ATX pc case with at least 3 fans. The low profile graphic card Will over heat l'ESS in a New case but if you use the same case an low profile card Will hover heat to Much and make you sytem automatically shut down. So that why i Do recommand a New case to with a 400w for the entière système. If it's Working you can thanks me.

J_O2' reply is not accurate, he may not be aware that the RTX 3050 is available in 6GB versions with the 6GB model only using 70 watts and is available in the low profile form factor and is powered solely by the PCI-E slot   this card does not require/use a AUX GPU power connector

next the comment at least 3 fans, is useless as it has no valid reference to base a working cooling reference on

better cases will be designed and tested for their cooling ability. cheap cases with fans simply crammed in every available spot usually offer subpar cooling

the HP prodesk systems are business/workstation models and as such are tested by HP for proper cooling in office environments and they have no issues running the video cards that HP has tested and many untested video cards as long as they physically fit in the case and stay withing the allowed power draw of the installed power supply

which can be a base 180 watt or a upgraded 250 watt unit unofficially the 400 and possibly the 500 wat units from other HP systems should also fit in your SFF case and be compatible with your motherboards power connectors

also note this system does not use a ATX type supply, is uses a HP specific supply that is unique in shape and power connectors to the motherboard

moving over the SFF motherboard into a different case is not practical as the motherboard is not ATX compatible and is a unique shape and the rear I/O ports are cut out on the rear in a unique layout unlike ATX compatible systems that use a rear I/O plate
