Driver from the Update Catalog

(Solution for models: Prodesk 600 G4, Elitedesk 800 G4 and others)

HP currently only offers the driver 8.65.319.200 Rev. A on its product page as "current". The HP audio controls were already not working properly under Windows 11 23H2 (the service started with a delay of several minutes or not at all).

I found several versions of the audio driver in the Microsoft Update Catalog Update : https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=8.65.321.20&p=0.

He opted for the latest Synaptics – MEDIA – 8.65.321.20 audio driver with a size of 116.7 MB. This is how to install:

  • Download the cab file from the Update Catalog and unzip it into a directory using 7Zip/Nanazip/WinRAR.
  • Then in the device manager click on Update Driver, then twice on the lower option and then on Disk and then specify the exact directory.
  • Ignore the warning and install the driver.

Now everything is working again: the HP audio controls are working properly, look different now and are available in the tray bar. Thanks for the hint, maybe it will help.

Thanks a lot for this advice. It worked perfectly for me (except I had only one driver to erase). You made my day !

Problema:

Problem

After upgrading to Windows 11, several HP EliteDesk 800 G4 TWRs lose audio. Neither the internal output nor the 3.5 mm jack works. There are no visible errors in Device Manager.

Cause

The Synaptics audio driver (formerly Realtek) is replaced by the generic Microsoft driver (2022), which disables the internal sound chip. The system prevents the change from being reversed because it does not recognise any valid OEM version until the HP package is manually installed.

Confirmed solution

Uninstall the current audio driver (Microsoft 2022) from Device Manager.

Restart the system.

Install the official HP Synaptics Audio sp155208.exe package( https://support.hp.com/ar-es/drivers/hp-elitedesk-800-g4-tower-pc/21353703 )

Return to Device Manager → Synaptics Audio Properties → Driver tab and click ‘Roll back to previous driver’.

Although the option says ‘previous’, the driver that is activated is the Synaptics 2025 version signed by HP, which restores the audio.

Check that the audio works on all outputs (internal, jack, HDMI).

Optional

To prevent Windows Update from reinstalling the generic driver:

Add ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate=1 to the registry.

Or block the device ID through Group Policy.
