Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I read on this forum the possibility of a BIOS update to 3.08 (via version 2.99). The release notes state: Provides latest Intel Microcode versions 0x21 for Ivy Bridge processors and 0x2F for Sandy Bridge processors. I have an Ivy Bridge processor (i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz) and am now running smoothly on BIOS v02.05 with Windows 10 Pro 22H2. What can I expect from an update to 3.08? What HP states in the release note about it is beyond my knowledge 🙂

@BillHolland,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

My personal reflection on (any) BIOS updates, is that you will most likely benefit from getting it.

Reasons to update:

  • Improved Compatibility: Newer BIOS versions often add support for updated hardware, like CPUs or storage devices.
  • Bug Fixes: Manufacturers release BIOS updates to fix known issues or security vulnerabilities.
  • Performance Enhancements: Updates can include optimizations that improve system stability and performance.

However, to be fair, there is a competing philosophy that says that if your system is stable, and you're not planning any hardware upgrades, do not update.

Thanks for the response! I am considering a faster video card. Is that relevant regarding a bios update?

@BillHolland,

Probably not.  But like I said, there may be certain code improvements in new(er) BIOS updates that could benefit your overall PC performance.
