HP Z240 Tower Workstation

So i bought a second hand HP Z240 workstation pc from eBay, it has an i7 7700K and 16gb of RAM. The pc is running windows 11 and is getting updates, but my TPM module is 1.2 and it displays in settings that my TPM module is 1.2. I thought you needed a TPM 2.0 module to update to windows 11, is there any way to update the TPM module? If it is required to buy a new TPM 2.0 module install it into the motherboard, take the old one out yada yada, I will gladly do that if its the only option. If anyone knows, please let me know. I just want to play valorant 😭😭😭

No. It is not your only option. In fact it is a waste of time, as was my needing to look up what valorant meant. Looks fun though.

Spend some time reading in this forum about Paul Tikkanen's method of updating to Windows 11 on not-officially-eligible computers/workstations using Rufus. Paul is an experienced very helpful long term forum member. His method is as good as it gets. And it does not need the hardware to have TPM 2.0, etc.

Thanks for letting me know. I did find out how to eventually update it as the tpm 2.0 update is hidden in the tpm update files on dells website. So now I’m running tpm 2.0.

said TPM update files are also posted on the HP site, perhaps you were to quick to completely search their site

HI there,

as replied before, you can actually update the TPM firmware to 2.0, following simple methods. I am french so, I'll post the one I made, but in the sources you can go to an English post : https://pc-gamer.tech/comment-mettre-a-jour-le-tpm-de-1-2-vers-2-0-sur-mon-pc-professionnel-hp/

I tested it and it works perfectly well, using the files provided by HP.

ArtefactPC,

Thanks... that was valuable. I used GoogleTranslate to convert to an English version which is attached as a PDF below. One little tip can make all the difference between success and frustration, and you provided multiple good ones!

The HP ReadMe linked below does not list all of the HP devices this works for... more are in the main page link you and DGroves provided, the latest version being released January 2017:  HP Desktops, Notebooks, and Workstations - HP TPM Configuration Utility With Windows 10 Anniversary ...

The currently functioning links for the HP ReadMe and the SoftPaq download are:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81900.html

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81900.exe

EDIT: These instructions and tips work for both W10 and W11. Some non-OS software now requires TPM 2.0 whether you have worked around the TPM 2.0 "requirement" to get W11 up and running on your workstation. The ZX20 family of workstations can only run TPM 1.2 because the TPM chip on their motherboards cannot be firmware updated. The ZX40 family generally came with TPM 1.2 but the TPM chip on those motherboards can be firmware upgraded and downgraded between TPM 1.2 and TPM 2.0. Related LINK. Some software reportedly requires TPM 1.2 instead so converting from 2.0 to 1.2 also may be rarely necessary.

More recent workstations such as the Z4 G4/ Z6 G4/ Z8 G4 can also do these conversions but with different SoftPaq software (LINK).
