Hello, I am looking at the HP Thunderbolt 3 pci-e card for the latest generation Z G4 workstation, there is no mention for compatibility with the previous model the Z840. Does it work or is it completely unsupported? I need it for my egpu.
Thanks

while the card/drivers itself should work, you will need the unique cable that goes from the TBolt 3 card to the motherboard TBolt header on the z840,... i don't know if the TBolt header exists on the "Z" series or if it's the same pinout as the z840
you will need to call hp and see if they have a TBolt kit for the "Z" series workstation and if so is the cable available as a separate part

Thx for the reply. I have checked my current config which already included the HP thunderbolt 2 card, and it also has a cable that spawns off the TB2 board to the motherboard. I'm not sure if this is the same cable you're talking about? Anyway I contacted HP Sales and they opended a case to look into the matter, hopefully it works out.
