HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Base Model Tower PC

Upgraded from an HP DC7700 Convertible Minitower PC to the EliteDesk 800 G4 TWR which I was very happy although somewhat disappointed with the speed. So I bought a Samsung m.2 SSD and what a palaver that was although glad I did,. But still not fast enough for me, especially as I do a lot of graphics work using ACDSee Ultimate and it does get indigestion which is frustrating especially after it was so difficult and took me so much time to upgrade. In part because although not a total ignoramus, I am by no means a technie. I do run SuperAntiSpyware and clean cookies, etc. and update Windows 10 etc. I'm not sure why the PC is slow, or how I can find out why it is slow, or what i could do to speed it up? Or whether a new graphics card would make much difference? I attach a Belarc analysis and would be very grateful for some advice. Thank you.

@Alicesusan,

Use the 6+2-pin cable, there is only one way they will fit together:

@ASH2755,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

How much RAM do you have installed, and what are the part number(s)?

What is the wattage of your power supply? (look on the PSU label).

Kind Regards,

I am sorry for the delay in replying but my feet didn't touch the ground from then until now and losing my phone def did not help.

Attached are detail of the 4 x 16GB sticks of RAM purchased from ebay.

Also attached is the PSU label. I heard that there are different kettle leads so as I have more than half a dozen, checked but they are all 10A 250V.

Please let me know if there is anything else you would like to see and this time I'll get right back.

Would be most grateful for your advice.RAM 64GB.PNGPSU Label.jpg

@ASH2755,

All right, thank you for the additional information.

Your HP EliteDesk 800 G4 TWR as fitted with 4 x 16GB RAM, an i7-8700, an M.2 NVMe SSD as your primary (boot) drive, and powered by a 500-watt power supply, should be running just fine.

If you don't have a graphics card installed, I would definitely recommend you do so in order to achieve the best possible graphics/computing experience.

With your 500-watt power supply, you got many graphics card options, so it depends entirely on your budget. Without breaking the bank, I would recommend an RTX 4060, specifically a smaller-sized (dual fan) model powered by a single 8-pin PCIe power cable, such as this purchase example via Amazon-United Kingdom: MSI GeForce RTX 4060 VENTUS 2X BLACK 8G OC Gaming Graphics Card - 8GB GDDR6X, PCI Express Gen 4, 128....

Right now, I would like you to apply all of the optimizations as suggested in this very useful instructional YouTube video: 🔧 Get MORE FPS in ALL GAMES! *ADVANCED* Windows Settings for performance.

Once completed, restart your PC, and see if these steps are making a difference.

Kind Regards,

Will do!

Thank you so much!

I found out there is a new app called Cloudflare Warp which is realy easy to install so I've done that.

Just checked which graphics card it has and it looks like it says there are two?

Cheers!

@ASH2755,

Yea, so you got a GTX 1060 3GB discrete graphics card, and the "UHD Graphics 630" pertains to your i7-8700 integrated graphics.

Upgrading your discrete graphics card to an RTX 4060 would mean a huge graphics performance increase: UserBenchmark: Nvidia GTX 1060-3GB vs RTX 4060.

[EDIT:] You want a budget graphics card upgrade?  This GTX 1660 Ti 6GB offered for just £120 via eBay-United Kingdom would still give you a substantial graphics improvement: UserBenchmark: Nvidia GTX 1060-3GB vs 1660-Ti.

Hi, I wanted to check back with you as I decided to upgrade the graphics card and got dizzy looking at all the ASUS RTX 4060's as there are a number of them and so many ID nos these days - EAN, EPID, EBAY MPN  or or AMAZON ASIN etc. it proved impossible to check one against the other. So I wrote to ASUS asking for some confirmation of numbers and here is their reply which I wanted to confirm with you as it would not be the first time that I have had a wrong recommendation from the company itself and would be grateful if you would confirm this looks correct to you. Thanks and regards.

@ASH2755,

Yip, the documentation looks A-OK to me: the Asus Dual GeForce RTX 4060 EVO OC Edition 8GB GDDR6 is arguably the best RTX 4060 model available at this moment in time.

Now you need to find a place to purchase this card and reasonably priced too.

Btw, I just noticed in Amazon-United Kingdom, that the Asus Dual GeForce RTX 4060 Ti EVO OC Edition 8GB GDDR6 is available for purchase for £282.49, (US$ 360.63) which I would consider to be a very competitive pricing.  Incidentally, this card with a low 160-watt TDP and also powered by a single 8-pin PCIe power cable, can also be powered by your 500-watt power supply.

Just saying.

Thank goodness for that. I just can't believe how many variations there are. It doesn' t make any sense to me why they don't make it easier to identify different models as I would imagine there must be so many enquiries and returns, etc.

As to price, the cheapest i could see was this one at £338.
