Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am planning to buy the HP Z420 sff and then put in a graphics card so I can play some fairly modern games, such as Red Dead 2. Which GPU would be best for this task? Preferably, it should just run off of motherboard power, with no external PSU requirements. To avoid any confusion, I am referring to this https://www.bargainhardware.co.uk/hp-z240-sff-xeon-workstation-configure-to-order model.

@windek,

Welcome to our HP Community Forum!

Unfortunately, no matter where I looked, even the minimum graphics card requirement to play Red Dead Redemption 2 (see: https://www.logicalincrements.com/games/build-pc-red-dead-redemption-ii-rdr2 and: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/gfecnt/red-dead-redemption-2-pc-nvidia-recommended-gpus1/), requires a minimum 500-watt power supply.

But not to worry.  We can make this work for you.  What you need is an "ATX 24-Pin to SATA power supply adapter card", a "PCIe X16 to PCIe X16 extension cable/dock", a graphics card base/stand, a 24-pin ATX power supply, and a 15-pin SATA female to 15-pin SATA male cable to transform your HP Z240 SFF into a lean mean gaming machine as I did with my HP Z240 SFF upgrade project: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgrading-HP-Z240-Desktop-Works....

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
