Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I was thinking that the CR2032 battery was no good. Installed new battery still green HD lite comes on, will beep 1 time, no screen action, the green lite is on the power supply (looking from the back), fans run.

The mouse & keyboard do nothing.

This is a xw4600 workstation, very few hours on PC; this was a Vista PC with Windows XP OS. This I purchased new several years ago.

What should I be looking for?? I plan to use electric contact cleaner on memory sticks when power is off.

Many thanks, all suggestions warmly welcomed!

Edit: I have used contact cleaner after removing each piece of RAM & reseated the other cable connections while the PC was open. Pushed ESC key repeatedly after re-boot; there is a time when pressing the ESC key the PC would beep every time for say 10 or 15 quickly pressing keyboard. This makes me think that the keyboard is working, still blank unchanging screen.

Is my thinking correct? Many thanks in advance, all suggestions are warmly welcomed.

Hi @2NewAt_This

Welcome to the HP Forum.

One POST beep usually means the PC has successfully posted but you have no video. Maybe you have a video out problem somewhere.

Check Diagnostic and Error Codes in the User Manual (page 42) at this Site . I didn't see a one beep error code.

Try onboard graphics if your PC's CPU supports this or try a different graphics card if all connections are good and other components in the video out chain are working.

Bill_To, many thanks!!

I have read the Diagnostic and Error Code ares of the manual. When the PC was open, I reseated all the memory & cable connections, but this has not helped. It points towards the video card issue, I will see if a build in video card is available.

Many thanks!

Bill_To, many thanks for your help!! After pondering the .pdf of the start-up beep/light diagnostic definition, your suggestion of the Video Card is really the only possibility left. This PC is 1 of the very few I purchased new, back in the day, the Video Card, is an Nvidia Quadro FX 580 was what it came with. There are no other port to attach the (9 pin RS232) monitor at. Just now, I have searched a replacement Nvidia Quadro FX 580 several used. Is there any reason to search out a different model or preferred place to purchase new/used?

Bill_To, I welcome yours or anyone else's thoughts or suggestions, many, many thanks!!

Hi @2NewAt_This

My pleasure.

I guess you can't try onboard video to check for a bad graphics card.

Try a used FX 580 if you can find one at a reasonable price.

Sorry, I can't assist with finding a used graphics card.

consider checking the graphics card and monitor connection. Ensure the graphics card is properly seated and the monitor cable is securely connected.

Bill_To and max_well854, many thanks!! I received the graphic cards, tried both but no change to the dark screen.

This is all that happens when powered up.

The top green LED by where the DVD is located blink 10 times.

The LED above the on/off switch is green.

The green LED below the on/off switch is on until about (blink number 7 counting the top LED) then goes off.

After more waiting will get the 1 beep.

If consistently pushing Esc on start up:

The top green LED by where the DVD is located blink 10 times.

The LED above the on/off switch is green.

The green LED below the on/off switch will blink 1 time while pressing Esc, then stay off.

The beep will stay timed with pressing the Esc key for about 4 to 6 beeps then nothing.

It does not appear that I will be able to fix this.

Many thanks, suggestions welcomed.
