Dear all,
I have 2 hp z600 computers, and I would like to upgrade their cpus. One pc has 2 E5504 cpus (ver1 mobo) while the other has 2 X5650 cpus (ver2 mobo) and ... I think they both have heatsinks for 80W cpus (I don't know how to differentiate performance and normal heatsink).
My question: if I want to upgrade to (other) 95W cpus (both pcs) would I need the change also the (current) heatsinks? Will the current heatsinks cope with new processors?
Thank you!

Yes, without doubt.... those "Mainstream" heatsink/fan combos are rated for up to and including 95W max TDP.
The "Performance" version heatsink/fan for the Z600 is bigger and way too expensive. Those are rare, and a tight fit. Here's some added info on that one:
So, you're fine with the Mainstream heatsink/fan if you are only going to run the 95W max TDP processors in your Z600s. I only run the 95 W processors in all of our Z600s (either two of the top quad core or two of the top hexacore processors) and we only use the version 2 Z600s. That is still a very fine and fast workstation in the v2 version with two of either of those processors. The Z620 v2 builds can be better, but at a truly significant added expense. I don't have experience with the v1 Z600. I personally like speed over cores for our software so two of the fastest HP approved quads is what I use for my personal v2 Z600 here at my desk.
For the Z400 version 2.... I use the X5690 under the stock Z400 130W max TDP heatsink/fan (which is a different shape than the 130W heatsink/fan for the Z600). That processor was never officially "supported" by HP but works great. It will not work in the Z600 version 2 but will in a v2 Z800.
