Follow-up to “What is Wi-Fi” – Part 2 of the Series
Connecting your HP printer to Wi-Fi unlocks wireless printing and true convenience, no cables, no fuss.
If you’ve read Part 1, you now know what Wi-Fi is.
Let’s turn that knowledge into action!
1. Prep Your Printer & Network
-
Place your HP printer within range of your Wi-Fi router for a strong, stable signal.
-
Make sure Wi-Fi is working normally on your phones or computers.
2. Choose Your Connection Method
A. HP App (Recommended for most users):
-
Download the free HP app on your phone, tablet, or PC.
-
Open the app, tap “Add Printer,” and follow on-screen instructions.
-
The app will prompt you for your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password—enter them carefully.
-
Your printer will connect and confirm with a message or test page.
B. Directly from Printer Panel (for printers with a touchscreen):
-
Go to the printer’s wireless or network settings menu.
-
Select “Wireless Setup Wizard.”
-
Choose your Wi-Fi network and enter its password.
-
Wait for a confirmation message before printing your first test page.
C. Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS):
-
If your router and printer both support WPS, press and hold the WPS button on the router.
-
Press the “Wireless” button on your printer (refer to your printer’s manual or control panel for exact steps).
-
They’ll sync automatically, no password needed.
D. USB Setup (for printers without displays):
-
Connect printer to PC with a USB cable.
-
Run HP’s setup program and choose “Wireless Configuration.”
-
Enter Wi-Fi credentials, finish setup, then disconnect USB cable.
3. Finish Setup & Test
-
Once connected, print a test page to confirm everything works.
-
On Windows, add the printer in “Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners” if it doesn’t auto-detect.
4. Troubleshooting Tips
-
If your printer isn’t found, restart it and make sure it’s in “Setup Mode” (check the manual for how).
-
Double-check that you typed your Wi-Fi password correctly.
-
Make sure the printer and your device are on the same Wi-Fi band (2.4 GHz is best for most printers).
-
Still stuck? Uninstall and reinstall the HP app, or reboot your router and printer.
5. Recommendation: ISP Assistance When You Change Routers
Whenever you get a new Wi-Fi router or your network changes, your printer will need to reconnect to the new setup. If you’re unsure about network names, passwords, or advanced wireless settings, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for help.
ISPs can walk you through connecting your printer, ensuring a hassle-free experience.
Take charge of your wireless printing in just a few steps!
Connecting your HP printer to Wi-Fi is easier than ever, and once it’s online, you’ll wonder how you ever lived with cables.
