scam?

HP Recommended
I recently had a problem with my hp printer. I went to the hp support site and used the online help, which gave me a number to call. Upon calling, I was told to go to a different website. In the end, the technician was remotely controlling my computer and informed me that foreign ip addresses were on my network. He then began pushing some company called Direct, which wanted 99.99$ to secure my network. When I said I did not have the money, he became rather pushy. He had opened a window on which he typed the how much, but that was suddenly deleted and closed. At the conclusion of the call all the typing and the windows closed. It seemed very odd to me. Is this normal, or was this a scam of some sort?

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details). If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Just wrapped up a rather lengthy discussion regarding my printer.  It was determined that it is not working properly, and that it was corrupted by "hacking"events, 699 from foreign IP's.  They said that HP would ship me a new one in 4-5 days, a photoshop 7520.  Technician said this model may not be available, nut I figured he of all people should know.  I am wondering if anyone has heard of agitsolutions.usa or if it is a dummy company?

Google search revealed that the phone number left with me is located in Coffeyville KS.  Tech told me he worked in Hyde Park NY.

I have had 2 recent experiences like this.  One now and back in mid-July.  In both cases I thought I was getting HP printer support, but by different way each time I ended up on the phone with a person who 1) told me I had a security problem, 2) they could fix for $199-1yr up to 399 lifetime to protect and clean.  Both times they got control of my computer and "showed" a list of security incursions before I knew what was going on.

- The first time I called the HP support # for my printer 800-474-6836, and was asked if someone could call me back.  They gave me #855-507-2434 and called themselves TechZone247.

- The second time I clicked on what appeared to be a chat site, and was referred to a more qualified "tech" that called  back.  Gave me # 877-870-0420 to call them.  Said that they were an HP OEM (?) associate.

Same basic pitch - smooth talker - attempts to flatter, intimidate,  and get info - somehow got control of PC - installed GoToAssist and SupportAssist  software - etc.

This does not reflect well on HP that such scary things are going on.

Note to HP:  It would help to give more details on the Forum in addition to saying just that HP is concerned and will get in touch.
