We are getting a 02.1:10 Error code on our HP Designjet Z5200ps PCL3 model #CQ113A. We have tried restarting (power button on the back), unplugging it, and entering the diagnostics screen. When we get to the diagnostics screen, we can select the Carriage option. It starts running through the troubleshooter but stops and goes back to the error screen before it finishes. Once the error screen displays, we can't navigate to any other screens on the device. We were having a few issues getting it to print a specific job a few days ago, but had resolved those. I appreciate any advice that can be provided. Thanks!

Open the top lid and examine the encoder strip carefully. It is the thin mylar strip that runs parallel to the carriage rod. Be careful as one side is metal and it is sharp like a razor blade. If the strip is broken or lose it will have to be replaced. If it is dirty you can try cleaning it with a lint free cloth dampened with 10 parts water to 1 part alcohol. Wipe until you get no more ink residue. Service documentation suggests that a missing carriage assembly stopper or bad carriage assembly.

I appreciate your quick reply. I did wipe down the strip with a dry cloth but it looked perfectly clean already. I did not get any residue. It does flex slightly with pressure but does not seem to be broken or loose. I'll try a damp cloth and look into the carriage assembly / carriage assembly stopper.

The strip will flex slightly but if it is mostly taunt then it is not the problem.
