Hey y'all,
It's Sarah, yet again. I have the DesignJet Z6100 60-inch. It does great when I do single prints, up to about 36 inches, but when I try to do large prints (40 and up) or nest prints so I can save paper, it goes crazy. The carriage on the inside starts wobbling like crazy, swaying on the encoder strip. Is there any way to tighten the strip? We tried bracing the printer, and that actually made it worse. It starts to wobble or sway so bad that eventually I get code 86:01 (which I know means the carriage can't move on the Y-axis), but I don't know how to resolve the issue. I've tried cleaning the strip, oiling it with the HP oil stoff, and I just don't know what the next step should be.
Thanks in advance everyone!
Sarah ❤️

Hi,
Not sure if you are confusing the name of the part
You should Clean the Encoder Strip with a lint free cloth and water
You should Clean and Lubricate the Slider Rod
You should never lubricate the encoder strip. If you have done this, try to clean it as much as you can, and clean the sensor on the carriage as it could be contaminated with oil.
About the problem, here a the most common causes
- Cutter lose or broken
- Belt worn
- Encoder strip dirty or damage
- Tubes not installed correctly
- Slider Rod not lubricated
- Orange felts on the sides of the carriage not lubricated
- Carriage bushings worn
