Design Jet Z5400
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
I have a machine DesignJet Z5400 44" PS
Ink cartridges state replace, expiration date 12/31/69
In Warranty
I replaced the Magenta cartridge now it states Reseat M cartridge, Expiration Date of 6/18/17, I've done that with the same result. I've performed Emod diagnostic to which it passes. The machine has the lastest fmw of CH_06_00_00.5
I have ordered Main PCA, Formatter & Left ISS?

Any suggestions?
I'm thinking it's a cross between the main PCA & the Left ISS.
Any suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,

Dont replace the Formatter.

Remove the cover and look for any leak under the ISS.

If there is a leak, replace the ISS, Tubes and ink cartridges

If there is no leak, replace the ISS and ink cartridges.

Dont use the cartridges mark with the 1969 date again.

Best regards

Mike G

The ink cartridges dates on the cartridges are all 7/12/17, not 1969.
I checked the ISS didn't see any leaks.
I have already replaced the Magenta ink cartridge now it states reseat cartridge.
I am a fully certified Designjet tech on all models, I have been working on these machine for the last 20 years. I've been on the hp website and there are no service notes on this issue, this is why I signed onto the forum to see if anyone else has had this same issue.

Hi,

If you look at the date on the EWS it will say Jan 1 1970 or Dic 31 1969

I have seen this problem before.

Dont use the cartridges again, after you replace the ISS replace the cartridges marked with the dates I mention before.

Best regards

I already know this, but on the cartridges is says differently. Well I've already ordered the ISS I will update when I resolve. I just wanted to make sure my diagnosis was correct. Thanks for your input.

get one cartdidge that was working good before, insert it and let printer initalize fully, after that, when plotter comes ready, change old crtdge by the new one.good luck

I already tried that, same result. It was a defective new ink cartridge. I removed all cartridges, powered off, then turned on and let the machine ask for the inks one at a time. Once I installed all the inks, machine worked fine.

Thanks anyway

try this it never fails.

remove left cover

remove iss (ink station system) check if one of de bongos in wet

wash iss with hot wather with some liquid soap, do it again with isopropilic alcohol and no soap buy it on drugstore about one liter, and use a bowl plenty enought to put  iss inside it

use a hair drier to dry plenty

insert again into priter

check for electricar cables well positioned

put back left cover and your plotter must be running as new.

Dont forget to actualize firmware

good look friend.

This way I have solved a lot of printers with this kind of problem , in my country is a very expensive to replace parts, so I prefer to fix them.

Please let me know if you solve   it, in may case, i have always fix them this way

I forgot something

Is a good idea to take out printheads and initialize plotter whitout them, plotter ask you to insert cartrides first,do it,and after a while, ploter ask you to insert printheads and wait patiently, let plotter to do the  remaining job for you, when it comes ready, actualize firmware and that is it.

Try to do patiently and step by step

Hope it is  helpful for you
