DesignJet 800
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have DesignJet 800 where belt failed, it shredded damaging carriage. Both carriage and belt were replaced but now I’m getting 21.10 service station error. I followed HP recommended procedures in maintenance manual for troubleshooting but nothing helped so service station was replaced as well but issue persists. I have posted video here:

to show what is happening during startup and I’m hoping that someone will have some suggestions on how to deal with this. Thanks in advance.

I have encountered this exact problem one time and now I know the solution and it no longer happens.  When you put on the new belt and put the right side bracket back on you pinched the big grey flex cable that goes back to the emod on the other side.  It happens more times than you think.  It is very easy to fix but you have to disassemble the right side again and this time when you put the right side bracket back on make sure the flex cable has plenty of play when the bracket is fully against the frame and before you start mounting I think 7 screws that secure it.  It will work after this as the cable is not damaged but being pinched causes this problem.

I understood after watching this video, the service stantion not moving at all after replacing with new one..

Two reasons:

1. Might be service stantion motor or connectivity cable damaged.

2. Inter connector PCA.

Try this.

Switch off the plottere.

Reconnect inter connector pca connections again.

Take service station out. Place it out side & connect it(just for testing connect the unit fron out side).

Switch the machine & observe the service station movement.. If its moving(wiping) properly, refix service station back..

If no movement.. check service station cable.

If cable is good then go to Interconnect PCA..

Chek port & tracks where its coming from(mostly pcb tracks damage found because of age)

If tracks are failed replace interconnect PCA.

Keep posting...

See the PCA tracks:

Video does not show it because carriage covers service station in the beginning but if I move carriage manually to another position and power plotter ON there will be bit of movement in the service station but not much.

I think its service station faulty..

Service station working principle:

When printer is in swiched off mode, carriage assy parked in service station, during this condition service station protects print head nozzle to avoid open atmosphere with the specially designed caps... These caps locked the print head as well as locked the service station. During this condition carriage cannot move from the parked pace.  Once printer switched on service station releases the caping and moves little bit backward to allow varrage to moce from parked place. Once carraige intialize to left side and comes to service station area to clean print head nozzles with the help of wipers located in service station. Once nozzle clean completes again carraige parked in service station for the ready state.

What you are facing that service station not relising the serice station beacause of its not at all caping due to serice station bacame handicapped, video also showing the same avidance.

Try it.

Take out service station, remove station motor, manually rotate main drive gear(shown in fig) & observe wether wiper is moving freely or not, if not open the service station & check where is the obstaction. If found damage try to repair it or replace it.

Below youtube link willhelp you to how to open service station..

Note: While refixing the serice station remove washers fix the screws( in video I obersved it)

@Vinay2

Since the service station has already been replaced is probably not the problem.

I think I would go with David Zuts recommendations.

It ended being bent cable as shown in the photo. After fixing that, plotter all started fine and went ready. I did get 22.10 error when trying calibration but after fiddling with ink/ink supply station and cable that was resolved as well. Passed all diagnostic and all is well. Thanks to all for help.

Yep that's the cable I was talking about.  As I said it happens more times then you think since you have to know to sort of move the cable out of the way of the bracket and then make sure it moves freely after the bracket is attached.  Glad it worked out for you.
