DesignJet Z5400
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

The Z5400 plotter keeps getting the 08:04 error multiple times a day after repeated reboots. I have upgraded to the latest firmware but am still having the same problem. Any suggestions on how to stop this from happening further would be very helpful.

With the power off loosen the 2 screws that secure the formatter to the printer and remove the formatter and reseat and see if that solves the issue.

Thank you!

After reseating the formatter, our plotter has not encountered the error since.

this appears to be a common problem with HP plotters..what else is new. Their lasers, plotter printers appears to have a lot of software problems. I would cook the board on a few to see if that resettling the solder would cure! It worked on a few older laser printer formatter board, because of hte cheap solder (so called environmental solder). We use lead.

it would appear like restarting a computer solves the problem.

thank you! As my old dead daddy used to say..KISS!  Most problems can be resolved with computers & so called smart phones..by restarting (oops), rebooting the computer. Tehse days, HP is using so called environmentally friendly solder. We still use LEAD..it resists heat cracking. Any thing to look cute and environmental but the old school WORKS.
