My DesignJet z9 Printer is requseting we order Maintenance Kit #2 with the following code:
System Error: 0021-0006-0098
My questions are:
1 - Is this something I need a Technician to do, or can I order the kit and conduct the maintenance myself? I am a high school Engineering/CAD teacher with limited time and experience conducting maintenance on large-format printers. Would like to outsource, if possible.
2 - Where can I order the Maintenance Kit #2??
3 - How long can I continue to use my printer before the system shuts down until the maintenance for this error code/maintenance kit are completed?

Hi @raltenburg
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query.
While the exact code 0021-0006-0098 is not individually itemized in the numerical error table, its structure follows the standard D0XX-YYZZ system error code format:
- Device (D = 0): Indicates the failure is detected in the Printer.
- Subsystem (XX = 21): Refers specifically to the Service Station.
- Service Part (YY = 0006): Indicates the specific service part component.
- Cause Code (ZZ = 0098): Represents the specific cause identified by printer self-diagnostics.
For Service Station error codes (subsystem 21), the recommended resolution steps are:
Check for a paper or carriage jam
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
- Open all access doors and inspect the paper path for any jammed paper, torn paper fragments, or foreign objects.
- Check whether the carriage can move freely from side to side without obstruction.
Clear the paper path
- Carefully remove any jammed paper using both hands to avoid tearing.
- Remove any scraps of paper or debris from the input tray, output tray, and internal paper path.
- Ensure that no packing materials or objects are blocking the carriage or sensors.
Restart the printer
- Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet.
- Turn the printer on and allow it to complete the initialization process.
- Check whether the error message clears and whether the printer returns to a Ready state.
Technician vs. Self-Maintenance: Yes, you can,and should, outsource this to a technician. HP recommendation for "Maintenance kit 2 required" I would request you to please share me the Product number. Unlike simple user-level interventions (such as clearing paper jams or cleaning printhead contacts), maintenance kits cover major internal subsystems like the Service Station and are designated for trained service representatives. Outsourcing this aligns directly with HP's guidance and will save you valuable time.
Where to Order Maintenance Kit #2: You can source official HP replacement parts through the HP Parts Store (parts.hp.com). However, if you hire an authorized HP Support representative or technician, they can typically order and provide Maintenance Kit #2 directly as part of the service visit.

Part you need is W3Z71-67022. HP Parts Store normally can supply although as of right now it shows as backordered. In terms of getting it installed.
