DesignJet 500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been trying to jump start an old DesignJet 500 plotter. Can't get rid of the "Replace Print Heads" error. That is obviously an incorrect error because I have replaced the print heads twice to no avail. HP's support page on this plotter is a mess. Why would changing the OS have anything to do with the firmware? If I change the OS to Windows 7 I see a firmware update. Change the OS to Windows 10 and it goes away.

Anyway..... does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of this continual "Replace Print Heads" error?

A04.02 is the recommended firmware for the 500\800 series.

Version 5 is no good.

Thanks Tabcom but that brings up two additional issues I mentioned:

1) HP Web Site is a disaster at least with respect to this plotter. Where can I get "previous versions"?

2) If I do find this "Previous Version" what OS do I need to have on the computer I am using to install it?

Windows 7 which I had to have to install A05 is a little hard to come by anymore......

With 24 years experience as my guide, I think a damaged trailing cable is shorting out the print heads.

At this point, I would suggest the following:

  1. replace trailing cable
  2. replace carriage assembly
  3. replace printheads
