DesignJet 1700dr PS
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am unable to use the "Full Feature Installer" to install my new HP DesignJet T1700dr (1VD88A). The printer has a static IP address and a hostname assigned by my institution. A screenshot of the error is below:

I can print to the printer using the basic drivers on a manually-created HP TCP/IP port (PS, HPGL/2, and "old" PCL3). HP Click also works and can find the printer automatically (I do not need to supply the IP address.)  I can access the printer via the web interface (EWS) just fine. However, the full feature installer software fails to find the printer using IP address or hostname.

I have disabled anti-virus and windows firewall entirely on my desktop. This does not help.

It's possible that my organization is blocking some ports via hardware firewall. However, as indicated above, all other access works okay, and HP Click has no trouble identifying the printer. Firewall within this building is quite lax, and most other services work just fine. If I new what ports to test, I could tell you more. I supsect this is a red herring and the problem is in the HP software.

UPDATE: I was able to work around the issue by installing the printer to a "file" instead of attempting to find it on the network. then, once the "Print to File" driver was installed, I was able to change the port to a newly-created TCP/IP port with the printer's hostname. This seems like a reasonable workaround for now.

Hi, thanks for contact with HP Support Forum.

Please preset the IP Address into your printer through using printer settings on the printer display.

Once you have done IP and subnetmask setup, just select on IP mode on the software and put IP address which is earlier you have setup on the printer.

Please besure, you are using same IP series between PC/Laptop and Printer (subnet mask must same)

Then lets try.

I hope that answers will support to concern adequately. Let me know! Good luck

I'm afraid this wasn't helpful. The IP settings were already set, which was made clear by the fact that I was able to use the printer EWS and print to the unit with other network-enabled drivers. Simple IP settings are not the issue here.

The workaround that I proposed - installing as the printer as "print to file" and then later selecting the appropriate network port - is the best we can do for now. This workaround was confirmed by the tech support agent, but I'm hopeful HP's engineers will actually fix the driver installer at some point.
