Microsoft has put out a hotfix or patch called kb4567512 for this issue. It worked for me. I found this site that talks about it https://www.myolddesignjet.com/     you can also get it here from microsoft https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4567512 just be sure to get the correct version for your machine. Good Luck!

Does this mean there is no way to use the plotter on windows 10 anymore? It is really frustrating to go back to a windows 7 computer every time I want to print. 😕

I just got my DesignJet 500 24 + HPGL/2 installed on Win 10 v1909

Plugged printer into computer via USB and let Windows install automatically (driver is version 7.10 from 2009)

Got the dreaded 0x000000cb  "The system could not find the environment option that was entered" when I tried to print a test page.

Go to the HP download page and select Windows 8.1 to download driver version 8.10 from 2013.  Run the EXE to unzip to a folder.  Go to the printer, click Manage, Printer Properties, Advanced, New Driver, then select the folder you just unzipped.  Pick the appropriate version for your DesignJet and install.  Works now.

BTW there are 3 versions of Firmware available on the download site.
Most of the newer versions of Windows will show A.05.01
If you select Windows XP you will also be shown A.04.02
If you select Unix you will be shown A.03.07 (firmware files only, no loader program)
