HP DesignJet T850

Doing some research on a new plotter with the purpose of printing inspection mylar. I typically use matte film (51642B) which works great, but have been looking into clear film (C3875A) because our quality inspectors can flip the mylar to the backside to inspect mirrored parts (easier to see).

  • What are your experiences with printing clear film? Pros/Cons.
  • Are they more finicky to temperature & humidity?
  • Smear more easily?

Currently have DesignJet T1300 printing matte film and looking to upgrade to T850.

All ink cartridges and printheads have been through HP; not third-party.

According to the specs listed in the HP store you are good with clear film.

Thank you for your response.

I did read that the clear film is compatible with the plotter, but I apologize for that I didn't further clarify what I was looking for.

My previous experience was with a Canon and Epson plotter which also had a clear film compatibility with said plotters.  But there were issues with those plotters tracking the feed rate of the media and ink smearing. I was wondering from anecdotal experience if there were issues with printing on clear film using the DesignJet T850 or any other HP plotter equivalent.

Thanks in advance!

If you contact a local HP dealer for Designjet they should be able to get you a print sample on the media you plan to use so that you can confirm issues such as water resistance.
