Hello,

I have a HP designjet t920 that is reporting "Printhead replacement not complete" whenever the printhead replacement cycle is run with a brand new print head. All ink and printhead are OEM HP and under warranty. No reason is given on the display, but an error is reported in the event logs:

I have updated the printer to the latest firmware. The only physical issue I notice is that the far left ink window on top showed no ink for several attempts. It now shows some ink, but does not have any sloshing in the tank below as the one on the right does.

I primed the print tubes with a syringe from lpscomputer and I replaced the printhead again and now the printer seems to be working fine. The last printhead was used exactly 0 times as it never would complete the replacement process so this is a disappointment.

Also none of the local companies I reached out to from HPs tool to find a service center would service it, oddly.

Case closed.

How full are the ink cartridges?  Some (most) HP printers won't complete the printhead replacement process without a sufficient amount of ink in the cartridges.  Don't recall the exact percentage it's looking for but should be listed in your manual.  I seem to remember the Minimum 25% full as being the correct amount but check the manual.

I don't work for HP....I just repair their printers.

Thanks for your reply. I believe they are all full enough. Some were lower than 20% and replaced when prompted by the printer during the printhead replacement process.

There have been some noted issues with the ink system not engaging properly. You can try moistening the printhead tubes with a damp cloth as shown in the picture.

Also make sure that you have properly engaged the metal bar in the blue latch when closing the printhead cover.

Thanks, wetting the tubes did help a little bit. The far left window on the head did not have any ink in the round window, and now it does. There is no ink visible in the far left side window though, unlike the right side where it can be seen sloshing around.

The bar is secured in the blue latch, and it firmly pulls the head and the ink tube ports together.

How old is this printer?  We had a similar issue on a T920 and it was finally resolved by replacing the ink tubes...and the printhead.  (again)

The printer is from 2013 or before. That was the oldest log message date I saw.

I ordered a syringe to purge the ink tubes. If that does not work we'll look at new ink tubes. Thanks.
