HI

I have been successfully using a HP T1100ps 44in Designjet through my WIn11 PC.  I have used either AutoCAD or the HP app, HP Instant Printing 3 to print.  Today, I have problems with both apps.  When I try to print through AutoCAD, it selects the printer okay, but the print fails because of a "media" issue. When I try and use the HP Instant Printing, I can select the printer okay, but under the "General Print Settings" window, the "Paper" selection is blank.  I can click on the drop down and the correct paper is listed, but greyed out and I cannot select it.  On the printer itself, it is showing the paper okay.  I have tried rebooting my network, rebooting the printer, reinstalling the printer driver and software, but no change.  I did also try going direct into the printers webpage, it correctly shows paper.  It also has option to direct a print file direct to the printer - I did that and that worked.  But can;t print through my PC.  I have also tried a Win 10 PC, same problem.  Is it a problem with the printers network card ?

Hi @mark_t_nz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Given the detailed description of your problem with the HP Designjet T1100ps, it sounds like the issue might not be with the printer's hardware, such as the network card, since you are able to print directly via the printer’s webpage. Instead, the issue seems to be related to how the software applications on your PC are communicating with the printer.

Here are some steps you can take to further diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Verify Printer Settings and Media Types

  • Check Printer Settings: Ensure that the printer is set to the correct media type and size in the printer's control panel.
  • Match Media Types: Make sure the media type and size settings in AutoCAD and HP Instant Printing match those set on the printer.

2. Update Firmware and Drivers

  • Printer Firmware: Ensure the printer firmware is up to date. Check the HP support website for any available firmware updates.
  • Printer Drivers: Download and install the latest printer drivers from the HP website. Make sure they are compatible with Windows 11.

3. Reconfigure Printer in Windows

  • Remove and Re-add Printer: Remove the printer from your Windows device list and then add it back again.
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Select the printer and click Remove device.
    • Click Add a printer or scanner to add the printer again.

4. Check Print Spooler Service

  • Restart Print Spooler:
    • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
    • Type services.msc and press Enter.
    • Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click on it, and select Restart.

5. Test with Different Applications

  • Print from Another Application: Try printing a simple document from a different application like Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat to see if the issue persists.
  • Check Application Settings: Make sure that AutoCAD and HP Instant Printing are fully updated. Sometimes software updates can fix compatibility issues.

6. Check Network and Connectivity

  • Printer IP Address: Ensure that the printer's IP address hasn't changed. You can set a static IP address for the printer to avoid this issue.
  • Network Configuration: Verify that your PC and printer are on the same network and can communicate with each other.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

HI Rachel,

Thank you for your response.

I will try the measures as you have suggested (though I have done most already without success).

I did try plugged the PC via USB.  In this case, it does work for the USB printer version, the HP Instant Printing application does now provide a list of potential paper types, which I can select from and the printer will then print.  If I unplug the USB and then try and use the network printer version, same problem, paper selection is greyed out and cannot be selected.  Does this provide and further clues ?

In terms of latest Win 11 drivers, I haven't been able to find one for Win 11.  I am using a .exe install "HPDesignjetT1100PrinterSeriesPS3.exe".  The driver it installs is listed as driver version 10.0.22621.1, dated 06/21/2006.  I have tried using the HP Smart app, it does not find the printer at all, even if I put the printers IP address in (which is fixed by router).  That seems odd.  The HP Smart app finds other printers on my network such as a MFP477.

Do you have a latest driver that I can install for this printer?

Of course, it was all working till recently, I wonder if a Win11 update is the issue...
