Trying to contact HP support just to ask a simple question is impossible. I hope this forum can help me out. I have used a HP Photosmart wide format (11x17) B8550 for several years, but now it seems that the printhead is failing and I need to replace it with a new printer. I am looking at a HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer, however I need to know if I can print images on photo paper such as 4x6 up to 8x10. If not, does HP make a Photosmart in wide format?

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
Riddle_Decipher is at your service.
As I Understand you need help replacing the printhead and also, need to know about custom print sizes,
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Did you check your User guide for custom print sizes?
Have you looked for any HP article with the details about printhead replacements?
If you haven't, here's a few things you should know:
Order the printhead
If HP replaces your printhead assembly under warranty, a new printhead assembly kit is sent with instructions and a set of SETUP ink cartridges. If you use HP Instant Ink, you might also receive a new set of HP Instant Ink cartridges. You must install the SETUP ink cartridges first, or an ink cartridge error occurs.
If your printhead assembly is no longer under warranty, you can purchase a new one online.
Ordering instructions for the United States and Canada:
-
Go to HP Parts Store (in English).
-
Under Buy certified HP genuine replacement parts, select Search by part number, type MH091A in the text box, and then press Enter.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to order the printhead assembly.
Ordering instructions for all countries/regions except the United States and Canada:
-
Go to How to Buy HP, and then click your country language.
CLICK HERE FOR MORE STEPS AND INSTRUCTIONS.
For details about printing images on photo paper such as 4x6 up to 8x10, please Click here to check the printer specifications.
Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

Actually, I had already found out from a phone call to a HP technician that the print head on my HP Photosmart B8550 wide format printer was only replaceable by sending the printer into a HP repair facility. Since the printer is out of warrenty I was advised that the repair would cost about the same as a new printer, therefored it was more cost effective to purchase a new printer.
I had been considering the purchase of a HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer, however I read a recent review that indicated that even though the flatbed scanner bed was 11" x 17", the document feeder was only 8.5" wide. Is this correct?
Secondly, I want to make sure that the 7740 printer can print color digital images on HP photo paper.

One last question. It appears that the print head on my HP Photosmart B8550 is, in fact, removeable. However, I have spent over an hour combing HP support trying to find how to order, and the cost, of a new print head for this printer, with no end in sight. Can you send me a link?
I keep getting one of two error statements: "Print System Failure" or "Print Head Failure"
Also, the printer shuts off all by itself. I have to uplug from power supply and re-plug in to fire up the printer. Any idea why?

Thank you for replying
I appreciate your time,
Here's an article that should help you with the printhead issues: Click here
That said, you can always use the first link I shared about replacing the printhead to obtain details on ordering on from HP - here's its again (Click here)
The reason for power failures could be a power supply issue, you could either try with an alternate power adapter or connect the adapter directly to the wall outlet if you have a surge protector connection as of now.
If the issue persists at the wall outlet and on the alternate power cord as well, please contact HP for further assistance.
Keep me posted,
Good Luck.

Well, none of your suggestions worked. Entering MH091A in the search box at the parts store returned "not found, try again". I've installed the "find your equipment" software several times, but it only returns to ask me to install again. I did manage to get into a listing of HP parts for this printer, but there was nothing listed for a print head. This is getting very frustrating that I cannot find a replacement part for an HP product.
