One day I found the printer powered down for no apparent reason. Pressing the power did nothing, no lights or sounds. I replaced the external power supply and both power cords twice with no helo. Is this worth my time pursuing this any further when it is probably an internal problem?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I see from your post that you are having issues with HP OfficeJet 7610 printer won't power on. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?
Did it happen after a power surge or power outage?
As you have mentioned in your post that you have already tried replacing the power cord and the adapter and the issue still remains the same. This looks like a possible hardware failure with the printer.
I would suggest you go through the support document - HP Inkjet Printers - Printer Does Not Turn On (If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the same issue).
In this scenario, please check this: I'm sending out a Private message with the information you need to get this sorted,
