I keep getting this message after watching the carriage move freely from left to right during start up Diagnostics. Then returning to its start position on the right. The printer has been thoroughly cleaned. Any ideas/help is appreciated.

One thing to try is cleaning the encoder strip with a water dampened cloth. This is the plastic strip that runs the width of the printer and has a micro grid printed on it. A sensor in the carriage reads this grid as it moves to track position. If the strip is dirty this can stop the sensor from reading which is seen as a carriage jam. Use caution and light pressure when cleaning as it is possible to damage the strip if rough handled. USE NO CHEMICALS as this can remove the grid. It is also possible that the strip is either damaged or broken, in which case would need to be replaced.
