Hp has discontinued the Red ink and the MK-R print head for my z3100.  They now list cyan ink and an MK-C in their place. Are we to put the Cyan cartridge in the red slot and put a MK-C in place of the MK-R print head. Just thinking about it...there is red ink in the feed tubes and would the Cyan cartridge even fit in the Red cartridge slot? If this is all true...is HP planning on helping us make the transition to the different color ink and the different printhead?  I have put lots of $$ in keeping my z3100 operational. It's still a great printer.

I was not able to find the end of life statement on this product but it was released around 2007 so highly likely it is end of life and has been for some time. that means that HP will be phasing out supplies. Your option might be 3rd party online supplies. There would definitely not be a transition to the cyan printhead, that is likely a mis-quote.

Yes, I found your idea helpful. I haven't seen a end of life statement yet, either. I will use the printer until a head dies. in the interim I will test some third partly Red. Maybe, Doorstepink. I wonder, there might be a rush on the designjets z6 and z9+ soon.

thanks
