I am trying to run a HP DesignJet 24" plotter connecting to the PC via USB. How do I update the plotter firmware and driver?

I have downloaded the firmware and the driver but cannot install it as the HP Support Assistant does not recognize the plotter. It recognizes the two other wif fi enabled HP printers that I have and use, but not this plotter that is directly connected via USB.. Since it does not recognize it, I cannot update anything. However the computer recognizes it and says that the driver is unavailable.

Try this.  Connect printer to PC via USB.  If it doesn't plug and play install, install manually. Go to Printers, Select Add a Printer.  A blue message should pop up "Printer could not be found".  Click on this message.  Go to bottom of next screen and select Local install. Click Next.  On next screen, Select USB port.  Next screen should be the available Drivers.  If there is a HP Universal driver, use that one.

Still couldnt get it to work. So called HP Repair service. Paid $190 to install the driver and install the latest firmware (version 5). But thanks anyway for your suggestions.
