Hello

Here's how the service manual describes that error code:
38.1:01
Problem
Description:
Media jam in between the printer and the accessory.
Corrective
Action:
Try the following:
Remove any media jammed in the Printer or Stacker and restart the
printer.
Perform the Stacker Test ⇒ Page 4-65.
Perform the Media Drive Test ⇒ Page 4-12
You might have a paper jam between the roll 1 and roll 2. Or elsewhere in the paper path.
If not, you might have the wrong hard drive for that printer. Repairtrooper might have a part number for the correct hard drive. Only one I found in the service manual was Q1271-60751. You can google that part number and see what all comes up and the description for the hard drive. The part number is usually printed on the hard drive somewhere. Is this a PS model or non-PS?
Did the printer originally come with the Roll 2 already installed? Is the cable attached in the back of the printer for the roll 2 drive? Does the old hard drive work at all? Is it useable for trouble shooting?
I have three of these printers but haven't come across this error except when paper gets jammed somewhere. But I've never had to replace a hard drive either.

I'm happy to report that yes, I can read. I read the service manual and 38.01 is not listed in the error codes.
I guess you can't seem to read too well either since you didn't answer any of the questions that may shed more light on the problem.
Good luck.
