Officejet pro 7740.

I have very small white line at the edge of the print head. It is very small and only shows up on dark solid fill colors. All the print quality and test pages look great. We replaced the print head and all ink cartridges and still no change. I did a full factory reset and power reset with no change.  Is there an issue with a decoder strip or is it something else. Thank you for your help.

Hi @Superdave-3435,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding white lines in prints on the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is producing small white lines at the edge of the print head on dark solid fill colors, despite replacing the print head and ink cartridges, and performing a full reset, the issue could be related to alignment, maintenance parts, or settings. Here are some steps to address this problem:

Potential Causes and Solutions

Print Head Alignment:

  • Ensure that the print head alignment is correctly set. You may want to run the alignment process again using the printer's display menu.

Clean Printer Parts:

  • Encoder Strip: This could also be a factor. It's a clear strip found inside the printer that helps track the print head's position. Refer to your printer's manual for guidance on cleaning it carefully with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid touching the strip with any hard objects.
  • Print Head Maintenance: Check for any debris or smudges on the print head itself. Cleaning should be gently done with approved cleaning solutions.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure the printer’s firmware is updated to ensure there are no software-related issues affecting print quality. You can check for updates from the HP Support website.

Adjust Print Quality Settings:

  • Modify the print settings to different quality options like 'Best' or 'Normal' to see if it affects the appearance of the lines.

Inspect Paper Type and Settings:

  • Ensure that the paper type setting matches the actual paper being used. Inappropriate settings can affect the ink distribution.

Visual Inspection:

  • Use a flashlight to look inside the printer for any unusual obstructions or parts that may appear worn out or misplaced. Particularly inspect the edges of the paper path for any debris or ink accumulation.
