Microsoft Windows XP

This is my 2nd 7740 the last had a print head failure after numerous copies.  I feel it gave a quality service for the use it had, so I purchased another.

This one is new, it rejected 2 of the cartridges sent with it - Y and C, saying they were not authentic HP Cartridges.

Anyway.

I am using a ton of ink, and I mean a lot. Can I adjust the print quality on this printer to reduce the ink use?

@19MB54,

Good day. Thank you for taking an interest in the Hp support forums. I will be honored to assist you here. Superb description of the issue. Kudos to you for that.

  • Is the printer working correctly now?
  • Do you still get any error messages?
  • Have you checked the printer settings?

Let's try these steps:

If the printer is working correctly, then from this link:https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-7740-wide-format-all-in-one-printer-series/768... (HP Printers - Print Driver Settings Guide (Windows) which gives you complete settings of the printer, you could check the section "Color and black & white settings" and choose a print quality that best suits you.

This should help. You could select draft mode for the sake of economy. This should work for you.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
