I just replaced the ink supply tubes on an HP Z3200 ps designjet plotter and I should be able to run the purge procedure however, the plotter is showing "no ink" in any of the cartridges. There is definitely ink in the cartridges.

Has anyone run into this? I can't run the purge if there is "no ink"  -- Catch 22!

Check your connections on the ISS. A reminder you need to make sure you have the purge modules available

Thank you very much. I checked the ISS cables and they seem fine. I was a bit concerned that I might have bumped them during the installation, but it's all good.

I got in touch with the good people at LPS and Tim said that those lines will have to be done manually with a syringe.

But before I get to that, I've been shutting down and turning back on the printer and the ink cartridges have been being recognized a few at a time. I've done it 3 times now and this should be the last time.

Wish me luck on the manual purge and thanks again for getting back to me.

Tim's very helpful.  He helped me fix a z5400 this week.

Good luck with the purge process.

Looks like that did the trick. It's printing with no banding, no missing colors, etc. Looks good but it does seem kinda flat.

I printed a test image and all the colors are there, but they don't really pop. I know it'll never match the screen but it seems that it could be a bit closer to the test image.

So as long as I've got you on the thread, maybe you could point me in the right direction to improve my image quality.

I'm thinking it might be a mismatched paper selection to the actual paper in the machine? or one of the black or gray print heads is bleeding?

Let me know if you've experienced this and what I can do.

Thanks.

What kind of paper did you do the test print on?

I did an internal test print on some satin photo paper on the Z5400 I'm working on and it did a beautiful print, even though the printheads were in poor condition.  I tried it again on some regular bond and it didn't look nearly as good.  So the paper will surely make the difference in the quality of the print.  Try matching the printer settings to the paper and see if you get a better/different result.

That's just it, the prior owner threw away the box/label that identifies the paper type. All I know is it is an HP gloss. Don't know if instant dry or anything else about it. However, it's almost gone and will be buying more paper soon so we'll see then.

I might try a different gloss selection for this last bit of paper and see what happens.

Thanks for your help. Appreciated!
