I have a T2500 and am getting “ printhead replacement not completed”.   I have read Englishjohnny's post.   I am trying to prepare for all contingencies.  I recently picked this up last Monday.  The seller said that a few? Months ago they got the message “replace printhead (PH)” (not sure of exact wording) so they proceeded to replace it; I asked them to send me the PH they originally replaced.  They installed a new PH, then they got the same msg. as I am getting “PH replacement not completed”.  Assuming they could have gotten a bad PH, they obtained a 2nd new PH, and got the same result—“PH replacement not completed”.  This 2nd PH is presently in the T2500.  (Ultimately I may have to get a 3rd new PH, hope not.)   There appears to be ink in the top of the present 2nd new PH.    I recall in the history that 6 PHs have been used, if true that is a lot; this is probably about 7 years old or so.    ….I am thinking there is more to this than a simple PH replacement but hopefully it will only require replacement of the present 32ml M cartridge as mentioned below—obviously it needs at least 30ml but the M cartridge is 32ml; maybe there is another problem with the M cartridge, don't know.

PH shows OK and error code = 0x00000

Right away, I noticed that M ink is noted as being too low to perform the printhead replacement. So I have ordered a new M ink cartridge.  However, the present M cartridge feels rather weighty, greater than the 32ml reported.  Again obviously it needs at least 30ml but the M cartridge is 32ml; maybe there is another problem with the M cartridge, don't know.  I am wondering whether something is up regarding an accurate reading of the M cartridge contents.

In the SE history I see several 86:01 and 81:01 dating back to May this year, however I have not incurred either of those so far.

In the System Warnings I see many entries about a dozen of 27.14 (class, subclass, and error unavailable) dating back to April and May this year which I seem to understand to mean that ink droplets are not being detected by the drop detector or the drop detector is not working which makes sense since the printhead has not been properly replaced so is not firing any ink.

No 93.x.x System Warnings.

The rollers in the Service Station look pretty nasty.  However, all service/diagnostics tests that I have had it perform so far are “OK”.  Nothing that appears of importance to me has failed.

I see short stretches of air in the tubes just prior to the PH but don’t know whether they would be of any consequence—about ¼” in the Y tube and about 1/8” in the M tube.  If I need to purge I am wondering how—I usually use a needle, but I think there is an incremental purge available now that may address this.  I just don’t want to have to replace this PH again if avoidable.

I noticed a strange date for the last check for a FW update—1/1/70 12:00AM—seems indicative of some problem.    I have not updated to the latest FW yet.   Maybe I should go ahead.  A lot of times I am hesitant to do that if things can work OK with the present FW.

Any insight on steps I should take or precautions I should take?    Thanks very much!

Finally! Printhead replacement complete! after replacing ink tubes assembly which includes a new printhead. Again was letting air in and leaking ink at the right (front panel side) ink supply station--leaky ink tubes; there was a bit of air in one of the shades of black ink tubes, not sure which one. This appears to have been the problem. The primer assembly seemed to be somewhat deficient in that the old one for the upper primer (cyan, magenta, PK, and Gray) did not seem to relieve pressure during the test and with me blocking the tube. The new replacement primer assembly did seem to relieve pressure at the upper primer when tube was blocked. I hope it keeps working! Thanks for all input!

Hi,

have you updated the firmware of the printer?

Yes, I just did this afternoon.  No change due to FW update.   I admit; 1st I need to try a replacement M ink cartridge.  But I'm trying to get a jump on this and get ideas as to what might really be going on besides a "too low" M cartridge.  Something tells me it is not a "too low" M ink cartridge, but hopefully it is.   But again the M cartridge to me seems to have plenty more than 30ml in it simply based on how heavy it feels, and in fact has about 32ml or so in it per internal data.

You need to replace the printhead again. Your printhead may be faulty. The new printhead is under warranty, you can **bleep** and they will help you with the process of getting a new printhead.

This is the 2nd new printhead.  But all was done by previous owner.  I just bought this last Monday.

But yes hopefully this 2nd printhead is under warranty and  I can get it replaced if necessary along with maybe whatever else needs to be replaced.

How do you initiate an RMA for a printhead? although I did not purchase it; the previous owner did.   But the date on it would show that it is under warranty.

So far I am still getting "printhead replacement not completed".    I installed a new magenta ink cartridge, replaced the primer assembly because the lower primer seemed to have less pressure or a shorter air pulse than upper but that is the way it is supposed to be as best as I know--the lower primes yellow & MK; the upper primes cyan, magenta, PK, & Gray.   I did try the incremental purge and at least got more ink to make its way to the printhead nozzles--at least saw magenta make it to the nozzles.   And in incremental purge the printhead is noted as "working pen detected".   And the printhead has status "OK"  and error 0x80000 which seems to have something to do with possibly empty color(s) in the printhead which is the case, expired ink which magenta is expired, etc.

But with the right end cover off I noticed I have a lot of air in the colored ink tubes mostly yellow and magenta.  So I have ordered a replacement ink tubes assembly which will include a new printhead.   Something tells me this is the problem--it is hard to build up pressure to propel the ink to the printhead when you have a leaky ink tubes assembly.  Seems to be pulling in air at the right ISS.
