I have been ignoring this issue, but recently seems to prevent some of the embedded web page items from loading.  The HP DesignJet Utility  (6.4.5.4879) initiates the upload to the printer,  the printer indicates "downloading",  then displays cancelling job.

Printer product number is CQ893A

I am trying to use firmware file AXP2CN2331AR.ful to replace AXP2CN1623AR.

Should i use an older version as an intermediate step?

Hi @GGorman777,

It sounds like you're having difficulty updating the firmware on your HP DesignJet T520 (Product Number: CQ893A). Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Confirm Compatibility:

    • Ensure that the firmware file AXP2CN2331AR.ful is the correct version for your printer model. You can verify this by checking with HP's support website or documentation for your specific model.
  2. Re-download the Firmware:

    • Sometimes the firmware file may become corrupted during download. Re-download the firmware from a reliable source, preferably directly from the HP Support website.
  3. Prepare the Printer:

    • Ensure the printer is in a "Ready" state before starting the update process.
    • Make sure no other print jobs are in the queue.
    • Restart the printer to clear any temporary issues.
  4. Update via USB/Direct Connection:

    • If you're encountering issues over the network, try updating the firmware via a USB connection. This can often bypass network-related issues.
  5. Alternate Method Using Embedded Web Server:

    • Access the printer's Embedded Web Server:
      1. Enter the printer's IP address in a web browser.
      2. Navigate to the Firmware Update section and try to upload the firmware file directly.
  6. Check Power and Connections:

    • Ensure that your printer is plugged into a reliable power source and all connections are secure during the update process.
  7. Consider Using an Intermediate Firmware:

    • If the above methods fail, consider stepping through an intermediate firmware version before jumping to the latest. This involves updating to an older but still recent version before attempting the latest version. However, ensure any intermediate version supports updating from and to the versions in question.
  8. Factory Reset:

    • As a last resort, reset the printer to its factory settings through the control panel. Note that this will remove any custom settings you've configured.

I have tried most of the suggestions including a full reset (OOBE).

I wanted try updating using intermediate firmware first, but could not find a download site.  Where can if find older firmware?

There should be no need for an intermediate version firmware.   I have went straight to 2331 form 1623 many times.    The 520 has a USB module on the main board in the left end cap.    On that main board is a small USB thumb drive (looks like a dongle for a wireless mouse) on the back side .     CQ890-67105 USB Module with F/W.

If that unit acts up i get a blue screen of death and 50% of time replacing that USB will get it back to operation.    Wonder if that could be an issue here.     The only issue is some early models they have a screw holding the USB onto board.    To get to the screw you have to take out board.    Most machines dont  have the screw and its an easy replacement.

I dont know if this will help but just thought of this when i read your post
