Hi @PUDPUDS
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
1. Printing Borderless on A3
The HP OfficeJet Pro 9720e should be capable of printing borderless, but there are a couple of settings that need to be correct for this to work.
Steps to Print Borderless:
- Open the document you want to print.
- Click File > Print.
- Select the HP OfficeJet Pro 9720e as your printer.
- Click Show Details to expand the print settings.
- Under Paper Size, choose A3.
- Look for an option called Borderless Printing (you may find this under Layout or Advanced Settings).
- Ensure Borderless Printing is selected.
- If the option is not visible, make sure you're using the correct paper type and paper size settings. Some papers (like certain glossy or photo papers) might support borderless printing while others might not.
Important: Not all types of A3 paper support borderless printing (especially plain paper), so make sure you're using a paper that is compatible with borderless printing.
2. Double-Sided Printing (Duplex) Issue: "Too Long"
This error typically occurs when the printer’s automatic duplexing feature encounters a page size or paper type issue.
Steps to Enable Double-Sided Printing:
- In your Print Settings, select Two-Sided or Duplex printing.
- Under Page Layout or Print Settings, choose the Flip on Long Edge (for portrait) or Flip on Short Edge (for landscape) depending on the orientation of your A3 paper.
- If the option is grayed out or showing the “too long” error, it may be due to the printer thinking the paper is too large for its duplex printing capabilities. For A3 paper, sometimes manual duplex printing may be required.
Manual Duplexing:
- If automatic duplex printing doesn’t work, you can try manual duplex printing:
- Print the first side of your document.
- Once the first side is printed, reload the printed pages into the input tray (ensure they are oriented correctly for the second pass).
- Select Print again and choose to print the odd pages or even pages depending on your document layout.
Check Paper Size and Orientation:
- Verify that the paper size in the print settings is set to A3 and not something else (like A4).
- Ensure the printer tray is properly adjusted to hold A3 paper. If the paper is not correctly aligned or is too large, the printer may not handle duplex printing properly.
3. General Troubleshooting Tips:
- Check for Software Updates: Make sure your printer drivers and firmware are up-to-date. Sometimes a firmware update can resolve issues related to borderless printing or duplex functionality.
- Printer Settings in HP Smart: You can also access the printer settings through the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device. Ensure you're selecting the correct paper type, size, and print options (such as borderless and duplex).
- Paper Type: Some paper types (such as regular A3 plain paper) may not be supported for borderless printing or duplex printing. Make sure you're using A3 paper that is supported for these functions.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
