@gdevlin,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

15,408 sq2 of paper usage over 10 years is very impressive indeed!

The realistic square foot of paper usage for the life expectancy of a DesignJet T2500 printer can vary widely based on several factors. Some of the key factors that influence paper usage include the type of printing tasks, the frequency of use, the size of prints, and the complexity of designs being printed.

The DesignJet T2500 is a wide-format printer commonly used for architectural and engineering drawings, as well as graphic design projects. The printer is designed for high-quality large-format printing, which typically includes blueprints, posters, banners, and other large-scale documents.

The DesignJet T2500 printer is known for its durability and reliability. However, predicting an exact square footage of paper usage for the entire lifespan of the printer can be challenging due to the variability mentioned earlier.

To estimate paper usage, consider the following steps:

  1. Average Print Size: Determine the average size of the prints you'll be producing. Are you printing standard architectural drawings, large posters, or banners? The larger the print size, the more paper will be used.

  2. Usage Frequency: How often will the printer be used? Is it for occasional large-format prints or constant high-volume printing? The more you use the printer, the more paper it will consume.

  3. Type of Prints: Are you printing simple line drawings or complex, high-resolution images? Complex designs with high levels of detail will require more ink and paper.

  4. Ink Coverage: Consider the ink coverage on the prints. Full-color or ink-intensive designs will use more ink, and thus more paper, compared to simple black and white prints.

  5. Margins and Spacing: The layout of your prints, including margins and spacing, can impact the amount of paper used. Efficient layout can reduce waste.

  6. Wastage and Calibration: Keep in mind that printers often require test prints for calibration, and there might be instances of misprints or mistakes that result in paper wastage.

  7. Maintenance and Lifespan: Regular maintenance and proper care of the printer can extend its lifespan. A well-maintained printer might produce more prints over its lifetime.

On average, a well-maintained DesignJet printer like the T2500 could last anywhere from 5 to 10 years or more with regular use. However, some printers might continue to function effectively even after this period, while others might experience issues earlier. Regular maintenance, proper handling, and adherence to the manufacturer's guidelines for usage can help extend the lifespan of the printer.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

I would add that typically life ratings on some components such as carriage assemblies, cutters and the likes are based on number of cycles rather than square footage. While 15,000 square feed sounds impressive that only works out to 1550 Arch E1 prints which is not really that many for a product like this over 10 years. Life rating on components on this series is roughly equal to 32000 A0 plots or 320,000 square feet
