So thanks for your patience as I muddle through, but I should do this reconfiguration for my Obitalk that is connected to Anveo as well as the one I kept on google voice?

thanks so much

The devices are technically end of life, so no new updates should be pushed. This was only a suggestion if your service was through GV and ObiTalk. If you have paid services with Anveo then I wouldn't worry too much about it. I have e911 with Anveo but that doesn't require any updates to the device and you will always get an email should something change through them anyways. I'm just trying to ride the "free" service wave as long as I can with GV, so I'm not trying to take any chances. Better safe than sorry, lol. Hope that helps!

Also, the manuals from the HP website has all the configuration items and dial codes.

Got it! I had only switched my elderly parents’ line to Anveo bc Obi threatened to cut off GV affiliation back in maybe 2015? Wanted to be sure their service wasn’t interrupted.

For my own OBI I never got around to it, and then, voila, Obi decided against severing their GV attachment (one of the few cases I have actually gained from tech inaction!)

So I too have been riding the freebie train on my own GV OBI connection, and appreciate this info from you!

I’m 18 years older than when I first set up obi and was on the rampage to help others (especially the seniors in my life) who were overpaying stupid cable “triple plays” forcing them to add a phone line. (I was also on a rampage to help people “cut the cable” so many times we got their bill down from $249 to $49.99 - for just WiFi.)

I feel like I’m on the other end now and really appreciate the kind and patient responses to what must be obvious answers to you but that I am not versed in.

all good things for you and yours!

Really

You're too kind, I wish you the best! If you even need to bounce some technology question, hit me up. I've been in IT for over 25 years and been using Obi since 2011.

I had no idea that OBI was being supported by HP. I did start having an issue with voicemail late last year, but used a workaround. Now my workaround is no longer working, so I'm trying to figure out if there is anyway to get Google voice to work. I'm not even sure this is a OBI problem, but what use to happen when somebody called my GV number, it would ring on my cell phone and OBI VoIP phones and if the call wasn't answered on any of the phones, GV would play a message and then allow the called to leave a message. The Voice app would even transcribe the message and alert me that there was a message. For months now, the call just rings four or five time, then there are two short beeps and now message is recorded. I'm guessing this is actually a GV problem rather than an OBI problem, but I've changed all the GV setting without any luck. Any ideas what I can try next?

ReCheck your GV settings to make sure your incoming calls hits last with all the numbers it gets sent to. It's not a perfect solution and doesn't always end at the GV voicemail unless you are not forwarding to anything else but your cell. My home VoIP number with GV sometimes doesn't ring and goes straight to VM. If it isn't ringing on your home phone then there is something not connecting with the Obi and GV settings. There is a chance if you didn't uncheck the update setting within Obi, then it could have been reset.

Thanks Amp794u for the reply. I did check the GV settings and they all look good. When I unplug the the OBI the call does eventually go to voice mail but it takes about 10 rings. I suspect all my issues would be solved if I could change the OBI settings so it doesn't try to take the call to voice mail. The other solution would be to change GV number of rings, but I don't see a way to do that.

I tried getting into OBI through my browser using the OBI IP address. That doesn't work. The instructions make me believe I can get into OBI setting using a lan cable to my PC, but I my PC doesn't have a RS232 port and I can't find a USB adapter. Any thoughts?

You should be able to log in to Obi from your PC using the IP address. It's strange that you can't. What model is your Obi? Have you looked at the admin guide for your model?

This is the admin spot for my model, might be different for yours but the phone codes to tap in work the same.

So for instance, from your phone, enter ***021# to find out the IP address.
