Hello,

The audio is slow to come in for videos on my new desktop. The delay happens on different browsers and on different  websites. Not all the videos are affected. I haven’t quite identified the pattern but I believe it happens when I begin using a website, or return from a different application. Not sure if that is the case. I tried removing the enhancements to the speakers but that hasn’t solved the problem.

[Edited to add:  I am using a Displayport to VGA adapter to connect my VGA monitor. The adapter is connected to the DVI port. My speakers are connected to the desktop separately. Shouldn't make a difference but adding just in case it does. ]

I received my desktop only a couple of weeks ago so I can return it if necessary. Below are the specs. Thanks for your help.

Hi @LFRo2025

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for already disabling enhancements and sharing your setup details. I understand how disruptive it is when sound doesn’t respond instantly.

The audio delay you're experiencing—especially when switching apps or starting videos—is likely caused by driver latency or power-saving transitions. This can be resolved by adjusting sound settings, updating drivers, and disabling selective audio power management.

Let’s guide your desktop toward crisp, immediate audio with a few precise steps.

Step-by-Step Fix for Audio Delay on HP OmniDesk M02-0055t (Windows 11)

1. Set Default Audio Format

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound > Advanced > More sound settings
  • Under Playback, select your active speaker > Properties
  • Go to the Advanced tab
  • Set Default Format to 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality)
  • Click Apply and OK

2. Disable Audio Power Management

  • Open Device Manager (Windows + X > Device Manager)
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers
  • Right-click your audio device (e.g., Realtek or Intel) > Properties
  • Go to the Power Management tab (if available)
  • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
  • Restart your PC

3. Switch to Generic Microsoft Audio Driver

  • In Device Manager, right-click your audio device > Update driver
  • Choose Browse my computer > Let me pick from a list
  • Select High Definition Audio Device (Microsoft) and click Next
  • Restart your PC and test video playback

4. Disable Fast Startup

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup
  • Save changes and restart

5. Test with Local Media

  • Play a saved video file (not streamed) using Windows Media Player
  • Observe if the delay persists — this helps isolate browser vs system-level latency

  • Your DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter shouldn’t affect audio since speakers are connected separately.
  • If using Bluetooth speakers, test with wired ones to rule out pairing latency.
  • You can also try disabling Exclusive Mode under the Advanced tab in sound properties.

Let me know if the delay persists after switching drivers or adjusting power settings. You’ve done a great job narrowing down the issue — let’s keep going until your audio flows in perfectly, every time.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

The first of the solutions, changing the audio format, fixed the problem by itself.  Thank you very much!

Is there any advantage in changing the other settings? Don't want to tinker unnecessarily if the problem is fixed.

Thanks!

You are very welcome @LFRo2025

Thanks for the update—I'm really glad the audio format tweak resolved the delay so cleanly!

If the issue is fully resolved and your audio now responds instantly across apps and media, you can absolutely leave the other settings as they are.

Thanks again for your confirmation, and we wish you an amazing day ahead! 😊
