I've purchased a Logitech Z313 speaker set which is attached to the CPU via the light green 3.5 mm plug.  Once plugged in, the computer does not recognize the speakers.

@glennwright

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I understand that your HP Desktop is not detecting your Logitech Z313 speakers.

I'll try my best to help.

Have you tried those speakers on other computers or have you tried other speakers on your computer?

Please Provide me with the complete Desktop model or Product Number

You can refer to this Link: hp.care/2bygf7l for help in locating the Product Number.

Meantime please complete all the Windows updates

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available.

Keep me posted

Thank you 🙂

Hi @glennwright, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @KrazyToad, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned the speakers work fine when you connect it to your phone.

Try the steps recommended below.

  1. Connect the audio cable to the Speaker Out connection on the back of the computer.

    Figure : Speaker out port

    Speaker out port
  2. Plug the speaker cord into the electrical outlet and turn on the speakers.

Try restoring the BIOS to defaults and check if it helps.

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Also, Try the steps recommended below.

Go to Windows Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers section.
In the list of audio device drivers, look for IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio. This is the device driver for BeatsAudio (a little bit sneaky, wouldn’t you say?).
Right-click and select Disable. The downward arrow displays on this driver, indicating it is disabled. (NOTE: At this point, you won’t be able to play any music files.)
Right-click and select Update Driver Software.
Select Browse my computer for driver software.
Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
You should see a window that says Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware. NOTE: If you see a window that says something like This is the best driver for this device, exit the window and repeat steps 4, 5, and 6.
In the Model box, highlight High Definition Audio Device (this is the substitute audio device driver) and click Next.
At the Update Driver Warning window, click Yes. You should see a confirmation window with High Definition Audio Device displayed. Click Close.
In the list of audio device drivers in the Sound, video and game controllers section, you’ll notice that the High Definition Audio Device now displays instead of IDT (HD) Audio.
At the prompt to reboot, click Yes.

If the issue still persists try the steps recommended below.

Is the loudness equalization off? If not, please:
Right, click the speaker icon
select 'Playback Devices'.
Highlight the default device
Click Properties
Click Enhancements tab
Next to 'Loudness Equalization' take out the check mark in the box.
Click Apply
Click OK

If the issue still persists uninstall the audio driver from device manager and install the drivers using HP recovery manager.

Refer this article to know how to restore drivers using HP recovery manager.

Also, update the BIOS and audio drivers on your PC using the HP support assistant.
