Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I bought an HP desktop in January (almost 3 months ago) and the speakers crackle when in zoom and teams meetings as well as when watching any videos on Youtube. I reached out to Microsoft and they updated the audio drivers but that didn't fix the problem. I've tried to research the issue, but I haven't been able to find a solution that works.  Can anyone please help me?  TIA!

Hi @tfisher3

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Crackling audio can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can try to resolve the issue on your HP desktop:

Update Audio Drivers:

  • Even though Microsoft updated the drivers, try downloading the latest drivers directly from the HP Support website or your audio hardware manufacturer's site (e.g., Realtek).

Adjust Audio Settings:

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
  • Go to the Playback tab, select your speakers, and click Properties.
  • Under the Advanced tab, try changing the default format (e.g., 16-bit, 44100 Hz) and test the audio.

Disable Audio Enhancements:

  • In the same Properties window, go to the Enhancements tab and check Disable all enhancements.

Change Power Settings:

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options and select High Performance.
  • Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand Processor power management and set the minimum processor state to 100%.

Check for Interference:

  • Ensure no other devices or applications are interfering with the audio. Close unnecessary apps running in the background.

Test with External Speakers or Headphones:

  • Connect external speakers or headphones to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the internal speakers.

Run Audio Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound > Troubleshoot and follow the prompts to identify and fix audio issues.

Update Windows:

  • Ensure your system is running the latest version of Windows 11, as updates often include fixes for known issues.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
