My microphone does not work on my laptop. I recently tried to make a video call on What's App desktop app. It stated that there were problems with the microphone and 'click here to troubleshoot'. I had not been aware of this issue before as this was the first time I'd tried to use my mic.
I followed all troubleshooting steps, checking for updates unticking allowing apps to have exclusivity, changing drivers etc. and none of the steps worked. I contacted Windows support about this issue. He updated the driver which did not resolve the issue and then followed all of the same troubleshooting steps unsuccessfully. He took remote control of my PC and reinstalled audio drivers and ran a full BIOS update on the PC. He tried to record audio on the default app on the PC and couldn't. We tried to make a call again on What's App and it still stated that there were mic problems. He said that he had done everything possible on his end and that I'd need to reach out to HP.
What can I do/who can I contact about the PC microphone not working at all.

Hi @AshleighDG
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like you've already gone through extensive troubleshooting, including driver updates, BIOS updates, and even Windows support intervention, but your microphone still isn't working.
Since the issue persists across different apps and even in the default recording tool, it could be a hardware issue or a deeper firmware/software conflict.
Next Steps to Try
1. Check HP’s Official Troubleshooting Guide
HP has a dedicated support page for microphone issues on Windows 11. You can find it here.
2. Run HP’s Audio Diagnostics
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly.
- Select F2 to enter HP Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the Audio Test to check if the microphone is detected.
3. Manually Reinstall the Audio Driver
- Open Device Manager (Windows + X > Device Manager).
- Expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers.
- Right-click Realtek Audio (or your laptop’s audio driver) and select Uninstall.
- Restart your laptop—Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
4. Check Microphone Privacy Settings
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- Ensure Microphone Access is enabled.
- Scroll down and check if WhatsApp and other apps have permission.
5. Try HP’s Print and Scan Doctor (It Also Fixes Audio Issues)
HP provides a tool that can diagnose and fix microphone problems. You can download it here.
