I recently did a factory reset and lost the sound device in the process it seems. How do I get a new one?

Your windows 8 system was not updated by HP.  Possibly the IDT drivers here are too old

 

Try this one

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71717.exe

It found it here in a discussion by @Paul_Tikkanen who is an expert on these things.
